 Where life and art meet

Meet Miriam:

I come from a family of creative people. My mom would make her own clothes, or "whip-up" quilts as gifts effortlessly.

I began my own creative path painting in oils painting  large face portraits of loved ones.  Later I began exploring the world of acrylics for its ability to better layer and dry quickly. Today, as a mother of 2 small children, ages 3 and 1, I have to consciously set aside time to create daily; it helps center me as a human being. During the school year I teach visual arts part-time through a wonderful NYC organization called Studio in a School,  I photograph events (especially weddings) twice a month at most; I love this work with a passion.  I feel especially honored and blessed to have witnessed such wonderful moments over the years.  I do not take lightly  my role in helping capture and preserve wonderful memories that will last many generations.

I take creative photographs daily. I literally take pictures of everything and anything, all the time.  The purpose, not being so much to capture the memory for myself, but to share how I view the moment with others.  I've realized that often, only through photographs am I able to feel the passage of time; my kids grow and change and only the photographs are there to take me back to the essence of each passing phase, and what blessed and unique phases each have been.  Having been a visual learner all my life, I highly value the power of pictures in telling and re-telling family stories.  I have created countless books using meaningful photographs and know they will become timeless family heirlooms passed down to future generations.

In viewing my work, whether its my photographs, my paintings or my digital or paper collages, my highest hope is to encourage others to also seek creative expression in their lives.  I know in my heart that all human beings should express themselves creatively in some form in order to live a happy and and truly fulfilling lives.  Being 30 minutes from NYC it's easy to think that ART is  simply about a linear continuum of talent or no talent, or what's hot and not, YET, we must claim artistic expression back and think of it instead as a necessary, intimate and pure expression of all all human beings that needs to develop.  Artistic expression belongs to us all worldwide, not to a select few.

Please e-mail me if you need details of any of my art or about my work in event photography.  You can view samples of my event photography work click here.  To see samples of my personal art work go to my Etsy store at mm72873.etsy.com.
